Warka Vase
The Warka Vase, also known as the Uruk Vase, is one of the earliest works of art ever created. Dating back to around 3200 BC, it was found in modern-day Iraq near Uruk. Many believe this ancient vase to be a representation of an essential Sumerian mythological story.
This ceramic vessel stands at a height of almost three feet and is decorated with scenes from nature such as birds and trees. What distinguishes this vase from other ancient artefacts is its elaborate depiction of a celebratory banquet scene which is thought to represent an essential moment in Sumerian mythology. The bottom portion of the vase has been missing for many years but archaeologists have been able to reconstruct its original form using digital imaging technology.
